Onomo Hotels is a hotel chain that operates across Africa, with 22 hotels in 13 different countries. Some of these hotels have their own branded restaurants that serve Afro-fusion cuisine in vibrant and welcoming environments.

Kandi has been collaborating with Onomo Hotels on an ongoing basis to enhance their visual identity and rollout. We were recently asked to develope the branding for Kokoma, the newly renovated restaurant located in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The restaurant serves contemporary dishes that are inspired by local cuisine.

Locally inspired contemporary design.

Kandi was tasked with creating the African restaurant branding, including the logo and visual identity design for Onomo’s most recently renovated restaurant aptly named Kokoma, meaning expressive and good-natured. The goal was to create a vibrant and eye-catching brand with an African influence, appealing to stylish individuals such as locals and business travellers, with interests in art, fashion, and music.


An approachable and bold identity.

During the development of the brand identity and logo concepts, we explored various options, one of which highlighted the leafy interior decor while incorporating an urban, bold, and approachable style.

This restaurant brand exudes a creative and lively personality. Our goal was to showcase its optimistic, inspiring, outgoing, and expressive nature. The brand values include friendliness, relaxation, warmth, expressiveness, colourfulness, and boldness. To capture the brand’s personality, we aimed to highlight its cheerful, positive, and charming identity.

Expressive, colourful and bold.

The brand identity showcases a welcoming African-inspired colour scheme that is used in different combinations and is accompanied by a friendly serif font for headings and pull-out quotes. The leaf pattern incorporated into the identity is inspired by the restaurant’s interior design. This cohesive visual identity effectively communicates the brand’s values and personality, which is inviting yet bold and expressive. Kandi further designed menus, coasters, and placemats for the launch.
